The American Cancer Society estimates one in four Americans will die of cancer this year. There were approximately 11.5 million Americans living with cancer in 2010 and another 1.5 million new cases are expected. That is 4000 new cases daily, 165 hourly and 3 every minute.
While treatments have become more successful and the survival rate has increased, there is still so much to do. It takes approximately six years of research to develop a new cancer drug. It can take up to eight additional years to get that new treatment to cancer patients. Government spending for cancer research has declined 12% in the last four years. NOW is the time for us to STAND UP to FIGHT this disease! The March of Dimes funded a cure for polio. Who will donate the crucial dollars that will make it possible to end cancer? Maybe us!
